Anti-Aging Northwest to Transition from Semaglutide to Liraglutide
Video Transcription
Dr. Philip Faler: Good morning, everyone, and happy Friday. I’m Dr. Philip Faler with Anti-Aging Northwest. It’s been a little bit of a crazy week and a half or so with things happening in the world of pharmacy.
Regulatory Changes for Tirzepatide
As many of you may have heard, maybe didn’t hear, semaglutide and tirzepatide have been going through some changes in the ability to be compounded at a compounding pharmacy, which is how most people have been using it. Tirzepatide, they ruled that the shortage of tirzepatide is over, and therefore, the patent takes effect, which means compounding pharmacies can no longer produce it. So the only thing available is the commercial brand name, which is going to be a lot more expensive.
Alternative Option: Liraglutide
Semaglutide may follow suit about mid-April, also has a patent. There is another drug in the same class, a GLP-1, another drug called liraglutide. Same mechanism of action. Should be same outcomes. The biggest difference, the only difference, it’s got a shorter half-life. So rather than once-weekly injections, we’ll be doing daily injections, which, a little bit more of a burden, but for the outcomes that we’re getting, it’s well worth it. So we’ll be putting together some programs for that. We’ll get you a nice, smooth transition and keep you on your path to health and weight loss.
